Description

Another gentle giant theme.

Basically just trying to show a victorious celebration after battle where everyone is elated except for this one compassionate beast. The subject is basically the giant being devastated because he couldn't protect his friend.

This one really took a while because of the amount of detail in every figure. I wish I could post a larger file, sorry.

Hope you like it and I'd love any comments you might have.
Thanks for looking!

Oh, what a beautiful theme... Poor guy. :(
You did a good job with this one. Maybe too many grayish colours to catch instant interest, but the figures look good. ;) A larger file would be nice, yes. The details would be more exposed to our hungry glances... :p If you manage to host a larger version, please don't hesitate to link it.

Very nice, both the execution and the story/scene.

The dead guy is kinda hard to notice, though; I wouldn't have seen him at all if the description didn't cause me to look for him. I would suggest bringing out the dead guy and his friend a little more, perhaps by using more contrast. The light seems pretty strong, judging from the visibility of the rays, so why not stronger contrast?

wow! that's amazing! great concept and execution! (thumbup)
one little remark: i agree with keiiii: the guy in his hand is hard to notice and his arm seems too long compared to his head... maybe just imo ;)

I like your work, but I think that when you paint it all in one piece, the illusion of depth will grow stronger. Now several parts like the rock and cloth of the front giant appear flat.

Hello Mr Book!

Here we have a new great painting of yours.
(Your painting "Life?" is one of my favorite paintings ever, just wanted to let you know.)

I find it very amazing how you painted the skin here and how great work you did on the background ;)

Wow, Thanks everybody. I definitely agree that the focal point is perhaps a little too subdued. I may tweak that.

Thanks for the crit and votes!

Awesome. Simply Awesome, I really like your style. This definitely one of your very best pieces in my opinion. I'd love to see it in a higher resolution to enjoy all those wonderful details. +8

Now this is really a good painting. the only thing i would say is that the giants have somewhat of a glossy tone of the skin. everything else is perfect

Very nice work indeed, you're becoming very good. One for my favorites list I think.

nice work.
but what iritated me:
the figure in the hand of the giant.
its like parts are missing or in wrong perspective.
the arm is far too big and long for the person in hand.
at least i think so.

There is much to crit in all your works...anatomical details, interaction of clothing against skin and the interaction of your figures with their surroundings....the foreground giant looks pasted onto the rock rather than sitting on it for instance......
However.....I think all these will be resolved as you grow as an artist and all your works have the look of a serious talent in the making. Your composition is good and I love your colour palette and for all the minor crits this (like all your postings) is still a painting that invites the viewer back for repeated viewings...well done!

I appreciate your honesty. Tough love is something that I value as an artist and is somewhat hard to come by on these sites. I really believe that if everyone only tells you the positive, then you'll never grow. I've checked out your work and it's top notch, I was hoping you had some specific artistic suggestions to revise the problems you see in this piece.

Also, I really appreciate the votes from everyone! Thank you!

WOW! this is only the second piece of work I've looked at of yours, and I am a total fan. I am fascinated by battles, real warfare as well as fantastic, and this idea of a mourning giant is fabulous. Add to that your amazingly smooth brushwork... man, you must have the patience of a Saint dude!! For some reason I can only give you a maximum of +7 votes, but I'd give this a ten if I could!
Awesome.
